A switching list for Train No. 1 on Friday, August 22, 1986.
Here's the instructions and a few comments.

    |
DO NOT EAT AT WIS RAPIDS S/O AND SPOT SHORTS AT DESTS TAKE ANY AND ALL CARS
FOR 165 THRU! CARS FOR 148 WILL BE S/O AT 148 BY JOB C |
This train had a of of work to do this day and
a stop for food was not in the works.  Crews were limited to twelve
hours at a time, and they would need all of it to make Merrillan before the
      clock expired.
       "Shorts" are single cars
consigned to a specific on-line shipper destination, as opposed to a cut of cars destined
      for another railroad.
      "148" was Merrillan
(milepost 148) - "Job C" was the Merrillan to East Winona
and back train.  There was enough work for Train #1 that work at the
end of the run would have to be done by the next crew.

AT 24 - S/O IF ANY, AND P/U WEST CARS
     |
"24" is Black Creek (milepost 24).
Setout any cars, and pick up any cars heading west. |

    |

AT 50 - S/O AND P/U WEST CARS, LINE UP EAST CARS FOR NO 2 TO GET SAT.
     |
    "50" is
Manawa.  Again, local cars were set out and cars heading west were
picked up.  Cars that were heading east were lined up on a storage
track and eastbound Train No. 2 would pick them up the following day.
Cars were set in the proper order for
Train No. 2 because these was limited room for switching in Green Bay
in the crowded Norwood Yard. |

BRING DOWN 2 PLUG DOOR MTY BOXES, SPOT 1 AT DR 34 AND 1 AT DR 33
     |

The doors is  probably a reference to
Sturm Foods,  located near the end of the spur which extends into downtown
      Manawa.
The SPS and RBOX  boxcars being
foreign roads needed to be spotted first.  You're paying per diem
charges on every foreign car on your railroad, so you always spot them
ahead of loads in your own cars - which cost you nothing extra to hold -
if you can't spot everything. |

    |

Train No. 1 the final 64 miles to East Winona, and then return to
Merrillan as eastbound  Train. No. 2.
That was quite a busy trip for the
crew that night. They would have tied up in Merrillan right around midnight. |
