GBW #101 was a transfer caboose built in the 1960s from an old wooden
        caboose underframe.

        We'll let photographer Bob
        Schoneman describe this shot:

"Why is it whenever I go out to photograph billboards, a
train gets in the way? GBW local's conductor gets back into the warmth
of hack 101 on the shove back up to Biron Mill. Highway 54. True
meaning of point n shoot. Guilty as charged. :-)"

A transfer caboose was designed for short-haul trips; they usually
featured a short car body and spacious end platforms to give the
rear-end crew plenty of room to observe the train during transit.
In this case, GBW #101 was being used on the back-up maneuver on the
        2-mile Biron Spur. |
