Eastbound train No. 2 rolls through the town of Taylor on a beautiful summer day in Wisconsin.
Alco RS-27 #318 heads a trio of locomotives at the head of this train, in a scene that was repeated countless number of times in small towns along the railroad throughout the 1970s. After Train No. 2 left East Winona, Taylor was often the train's first stop for work during the trip to Green Bay. Badger Mining Corporation was a large customer in this town, using covered hoppers to ship sand for industrial purposes. Taylor was one of several towns along the railroad which were named for officials of the Green Bay & Lake Pepin RR, the predecessor of the GB&W. In this case, it was named after Moses Taylor, one of the largests investor in the original GB&LP. |
