Gondola #33 at Wolf Brothers Sawmill, Stetsonville, Wis.

Bob Gile captured a Green Bay
& Western gondola in Stetsonville, Wis., 2002.  It was one
of ten gondolas built for GBW by Thrall Car Manufacturing Company in
1966.  They were often used to haul pulpwood to paper mills located
along the railroad.  The gondolas were originally red with white
lettering, then painted yellow with black lettering about 1973. The final
lettering scheme as shown here was applied in the mid 1980s.
Stetsonville is a small town of about 600 people a few miles south of
Medford on State Highway 13. The Wolf Brothers Sawmill is on South Cedar Street in the center of town. The business operates
a sawmill and a planing mill for softwood lumber. |
